Not that fashionable

fashionable clock

I can honestly say I’m not fashionable. I don’t follow fashion. I don’t dress to impress. I think most female clothes are ugly. Especially shoes. Yuck. I actually feel a bit envious of male shoes because they look normal. There can be ugly ones too though. I can’t understand how females can walk in those high heels. I can never find decent shoes in stores. I’ve been looking for summer shoes but everything is too sweaty or too ugly. Luckily the summer in Finland wasn’t that hot. Even though I don’t follow fashion, I know what looks good and I have found none. I wouldn’t be found dead in the kind of shoes they have these days. This summer ripped jeans were trending. I had one pair of those too. In the 90’s! They don’t look cool. It makes young people look like they have nothing else to put on. Don’t get me started on Crocs or UGG boots. It’s a fashion disaster. Fashion, in general, bores me to tears. No offence for those who does like it. It’s just isn’t for me.

Fashionable is not only clothing. It’s also in entertainment. Some people change favourites like they change underwear. They watch movies that are popular at the time. The same with music. I’m more loyal to my favourites. Sometimes I’m even behind some trends because I realise things slower than others. I think I wrote this one before but Marvel movies weren’t my thing when it was most popular. I still don’t care most of them. I only like Thor and Guardians of the galaxy. Thanks to certain actors. Others are blah. Of course, Marvel is always pop because of all of the new movies coming out. Please make them stop. Also, make all the sequels and new adaptions stop. Enough already. Make something new, please. I especially don’t understand all these Fast and furious movies. I watched one and that was enough. It was so dull. If I want to watch car racing, I watch a real one. That’s one fashionable movie thing I can’t understand. Hollywood is running out of ideas. I go and watch a movie if it’s interesting enough and not because it’s fashionable.

Music is another thing that I’m loyal to. I still listen to the same music I did when I was a child. They still sound good. I love Spotify for the reason that you can find old songs you haven’t heard for years. I have written in a notebook about the songs I liked and the songs I didn’t like. It started in 1993 until 2001. I searched for them on Spotify and I found a lot of them. They still sound great. There are some great songs today but nothing compared to the older songs. I don’t even search for new songs and the latest trends in music anymore. I have so many old favourites, I don’t really need new to stuff to listen to. Except from the bands and artists that have been around for years or decades. Their new music is always more than welcome.

The only fashionable trends I follow are in design and photography because that’s what matters to me the most. If I didn’t I would fall off the wagon, so to speak. If I want to work in the industry I have to be interested in what people like and maybe make up something new. I’m not an inventor so the latter might be difficult.
Fashionable or not, you should always keep up with the times. Things change so rapidly these days. Thanks to the internet, you find new information faster than before. It’s more of a guideline than an order you have to go by. I’m not that fashionable but I know what I like and respect other people’s opinions. That’s a trend everybody in the world should have.

So many penchants but so little time

lap top and papersI’m one of those people who can’t decide what I like doing the most. I’ve got so many different things I find enjoyable so I can’t just choose one. In a way, I envy those who only got at least one penchant that they focus on. My mind goes everywhere. That’s one of the reasons why it has taken me so long to find what I want to do for a living. I always wanted to be different. I wanted to have a job where I could express myself. I’ve  looked for things other people thought were impossible. I’ve never been driven by money. It’s good to have but I rather have a job that I like. Life’s too short to do something only because of money. If I have to do something I’m not interested in, I feel trapped and my motivation is low. I’ve had those internships where I had nothing to do and I was bored out of my mind. Anyone could feel the same in that situation. You should do what you like and is good at it. It doesn’t matter what others think.

There is an advantage for liking different things. If you get bored with one thing, you can do another. I for one get bored if I do only one thing. If it’s music taste or movie genre, my likes are wide-ranged. I couldn’t listen to one kind of music style. There are so many good songs so I can’t choose which is my all time favourite. I don’t even know what’s the best band in the world because there’s so many I like. The same goes for artists. It’s easier to choose which ones I don’t like. That’s the same with anything else in life. I usually choose things with feeling. What kind of music I listen or what kind of movie I’m gonna watch depends on my mood. It doesn’t matter what kind of song it is. I can listen to sad songs even if I’m happy. Some might listen to sad songs when they’re sad but I find songs with a positive tune a much better cure. Music has always been a helpful tool for different emotions for me. Laughing also makes me feel better.

I love comedy but not just any kind. I think they used to make much better comedy shows and movies in the past. What you see these days are not funny at all. The only show that I can mention from the 2010’s is ‘The big bang theory‘. Some might not find it funny but that’s their opinion. Maybe ‘Modern Family‘ but I haven’t watched it that much. ‘30 Rock‘ was funny too. It seems that young people find being drunk and act like an idiot, is funny. The funniest comedy shows were made in the 80’s and 90’s. They’re still funny. Good ones will never get old. What you see now, won’t be remembered in 20 years or more. They’re not funny now so they won’t be funny then. I guess all the best ideas are already done. At least you can watch the oldies on DVD’s or online streaming. There’s just so many good ones but so little time.

If I had to choose just one penchant, then it would be writing. Not only blogging but also writing in general. It has always been a part of me since the day I learned to spell. I had my first diary at 7 but then it was just scribbling. Writing is easier than talking. When you write you have time to think. You can always come back to it and add things. But when you talk to someone, you can’t get it back or you forget to say something. I think before I speak and even then the words don’t come out the way I thought in my head. Afterwards, I wish I had said those things and it torments me a few days. Writing can also be a disadvantage. People can misunderstand you and it’s more difficult to write the exact thoughts in words. Writing emotions or sounds in words is most difficult. In any language. I sometimes struggle with that and try to find an answer on the internet. Then it frustrates me when I can’t find the answer. Those are probably the only downsides to it. Other times, writing is fun and a great distraction from other daily things. We all need an escape from time to time and writing is mine.

Happy 4th of July America

4th of July

I can’t sail across the ocean to say this so I write it instead.

Happy 4th of July to my American friends!

Even though I never been there and never met anyone of you, I still have a big respect for you. As a European, America has had a big influence on me. Most of my favourite things are American. When I speak English, it happens to turn into American English. I haven’t noticed myself how I pronounce English when I talk though. Maybe it’s a mix. I found this website where you can hear the different pronouncing styles between American and British English. It can be a bit of both. I guess you have to talk to a native before you know which one it is. Even if I write this blog in British English, that American one keeps coming into my thoughts. The spelling is sometimes a little different so I have to check it out from Google. The word ‘practise’ is the one of the hardest I seem to confuse with. In the end, the most imported thing is to be understood no matter what the spelling is.

Most of my favourite bands and artists are American (Madonna, Michael Jackson, Pink, Prince, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith) The same goes with movies and actors (Tom Hanks, Johnny Depp, Lee Pace). American’s really are good at the entertainment business. They have the money to make good TV shows as well. At least there used to be good ones. Most of the shows I watched has ended (Bones, Mythbusters, Person of interest). Soon Game of Thrones will end too. Good things come to an end which is a shame. If there only would interesting new show but I don’t care any of them. They’re running out of good ideas over there. It’s not only America but in general. I don’t watch anything on TV anymore. Luckily the internet is full of those great shows that were made in the US in the past.

Every country has its downsides and so does America. No one is perfect. We all have our bad sides but we all should be proud of who we are and where we’re coming from.
So have a happy 4th of July to all Americans and who lived there for years. Stay safe and enjoy your day no matter how you celebrate it.
