When the father is more interesting than the son

Not talking about real life. Gee, what do you take me for 😉

Talking about Thranduil and Legolas in The Hobbit. Somewhere in a forum, someone mentioned that Thranduil is prettier than Legolas. It got me an idea to this short story. It was late at night so forgive me if it’s awful.

Legolas found himself a girlfriend. She was no elf but close enough. She was beautiful and had pointy ears. The difference was she were mortal. She came from a far. No one was sure where. But Legolas loved her. The problem was though, it seemed she wasn’t really into him. She was kind and showed affection to him but somehow he felt she didn’t feel the same. When he asked her, she just said. “I care for you” But that was it.
Legolas thought, maybe she will love him in time. Days and weeks went by but nothing changed. She still “only cared for him” He was getting worried. Was she never gonna feel the same about him? He asked her again but she still said the same. Now he was really getting upset. What should he do? He knew he couldn’t make her fall in love with him. He couldn’t talk to anyone about his problem. Not even with his father Thranduil. All he seemed to care about was his kingdom and getting the jewels back from the dwarfs.

Three weeks later, Legolas was sitting with her outside the gates of the kingdom. She only looked out to the forest. The sun was about to go down. He looked at her, wondering what she was thinking. Lately she had been quiet. She probably didn’t want a conflict of any sort. He knew she would only get upset if he kept asking her questions. But he couldn’t stay silent any longer. He would probably lose her after this.
“You’ve been here over a month and still you only tell me you care for me. Are you ever gonna tell me anything else?” He said but she didn’t look at him
He stood up and got in front of her so the sunset were behind him, casting a shadow over her face. She looked up and smiled but didn’t say anything. Legolas was usually a calm elf but now he was getting frustrated. He was about to slap her cheek when he hears his father’s voice behind them.
“Legolas”
He took his hand down and looked at his father, who looked upset.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
She stood up and turned around. A smile appeared on her face. Legolas noticed it was different. He had a hunch what was going on.
“Nothing” Legolas said and looked down
“Get inside. You never know when someone might attack” Thranduil said and went back inside
She kept looking at him and was about to follow. Legolas grabbed her arm.
“What is going on?” He asked upset
“Leave me alone” She said and tried to get herself lose
“So this is the reason for all this?”
“What reason?” She said, looking puzzled
“Come on, you know what I mean”
“Let me go first”
Legolas let her.
“I know I should have said it earlier but I was too shy to approach the matter. The truth is, I like your father better”
Legolas couldn’t believe his ears. Instead of starting acting crazy, he stayed calm. He couldn’t believe he had to compete with his father.
“He doesn’t care for you, all he cares about is himself. He’ll never even look your way”
“You only say that because you’re upset. I’ll prove you wrong” She said and walked inside
Legolas just stood there. Was this her thank you after everything? Had he wasted all his time trying to make her love him? He could not just stand by and watch on the side. He had to stop her from trying. He had to get to his father before she could.

Things you get in your head at night. It’s a bit weird that Lee Pace and Orlando Bloom play father and son when the latter is 2 years older. It doesn’t matter because they could be related for real.

Movies and it’s characters

I’ll take The Hobbit movies as an example. As usual 😉 Not talking about the book.

I wonder if people choose their favorite characters based on who they are played by.
Is Thorin liked because of the character or is it because it’s played by Richard Armitage?
Or Kili because it’s played by Aidan Turner?
Legolas because of Orlando Bloom?
Not to mention Thranduil played by Lee Pace?

I watched Youtube videos where actors are interviewed or scenes from the movies (in general that is) There’s lot of comments about how wonderful (about their looks etc.) they are.

Thranduil is such a bad-a§§ but oh so hot
Not an actual quote.

Would they say like that, if it was played by someone else?! Or is it because they find Lee Pace hot?! If the character was played by, let’s say, Robert Pattinson. (just an example) Would Thranduil still be hot? Or would he be something else?

I usually like a character better if it’s acted by a good actor. It doesn’t matter how the actor looks like. For example, one of my favorite actors is Christian Bale. But sometimes he plays characters I don’t like at all. And would still not like it if it was played by someone else. If anyone has seen Harsh Times. The character he plays there is really irritating for my liking. I wouldn’t like it no matter what.

How about the other way around? An actor you don’t like but still plays a likeable character. Maybe that actor does a good job and that way, you start to like him/her. Or someone you liked before but plays a character you don’t like, would you still like that actor? There’s no actor I don’t like so I don’t know how it would be. Maybe Robert Pattinson but since I haven’t seen any movies with him, it’s hard to tell.

There’s people that think the character Tauriel shouldn’t be in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug because it’s not in the book. Maybe the real reason is that it’s played by Evangeline Lilly and they’ve got issues with her. For me that character is likeable whoever it’s played by. But she just does it best. Could not think anybody else in that role.

Sometimes when reading what people think about a character, makes me wonder what the real reason really is. Maybe it’s just teens that like a character because of the actor it’s played by. But as some might remember what a big fuss it was when Ben Affleck was hired to play the next Batman. The character is loved and people were used to see Mr Bale play it so maybe that was the reason they got upset. Batman (Bond, Spiderman etc.) is always gonna be loved. The character itself will never be disliked. In this case it’s just the actor that gets the negative comments.

Confused? Don’t worry, so am I 😀 If you got any views on this matter, don’t be afraid to comment.

Not just another pretty face

No not talking about me 😉

I’m talking about actors and actresses. Take Brad Pitt for example. People see him as the ‘pretty boy” Looks on the side. How about his acting skills?! Why not talk about that?! Luckily people’s attitudes has changed through the years. But still there are people talking about his looks. Same goes with these new upcoming actors/actresses.

“OMG he such a hotty”

Yeah, yeah. How about acting skills?! What do people think about that? People drooling over actors (or actresses) looks. The problem with today is, how important looks are. Even more then before. I wouldn’t want to be an actress. Too much pressure. You have to be young and pretty to get a role. Is Scarlett Johansson getting roles because of her acting abilities?! I think not. It also helps that she’s pretty (to some)

The point with this post was that people are more interested in looks then in acting skills. E.g. when the first movie of The Hobbit came out, a lot of females (maybe some men) were all over Aidan Turner. But how about now?! Not the same way. Same goes with Orlando Bloom. I guess all those teens grew up and don’t see him the same way. Now people all over Lee Pace. It’s the novelty that people find attractive.

I don’t fit that role. I usually start to notice that kind of thing much later. I did notice Christian Bale’s looks first though. But his acting abilities are just amazing. Not everyone can play a sociopath (American Psycho) and be believable.

There’s nothing wrong about liking an actor/actress for their looks. But they should also like them for their acting skills.

I would rather hear people say;he’s such a good actor. Instead of; OMG that actor is so hot. It is an acting job, not a beauty contest.
