In the year 2016

fireworks

It’s that time of year when you reminisce the year that has passed. A lot has happened during the year in the world. Since this is a blog post and I write about things I like and my thoughts, I’m going to go down the memory lane. Luckily WordPress keeps stats so it’s easier to remember what I’ve written about. So here it goes. This is part 1.

January
Like any year, I don’t make any new years resolutions and I never plan ahead. Every year it’s the same, things happen you never thought would. Nothing is too obvious. Like Finland’s Juniors under 20 became world champions in ice hockey. Some of those players now have an NHL contract in their pockets. Personally I got a tablet and decided to join Instagram. Since I don’t have a smart phone, I’ve never been interested in it before.
In the end of the month my favorite tennis player, Novak Djokovice won his 11th Grand Slam in Australian Open.
The sad news was that pop icon David Bowie past away.

February
This month was quiet in my blog. I started a career coaching course which took all my time. In that course you learned about job searching and your own strengths. I wouldn’t say I learned anything new but it did give me a chance to get out of my comfort zone. Talking about comfort. Leonardo DiCaprio finally won an Oscar. He’s been nominated so many times and never won. No one deserves it more than him.

March
March was the most difficult one. I was still on the career coaching course and we were suppose to go to companies to ask for a work practise place. I felt so worthless because it was so hard for me to pick up the courage and when I finally did, they said no can do. Then I called a stranger and got an interview in a digital marketing company but I didn’t meet the person I should. It was quite useless because I got a no can do again. At least I saw a famous Finnish actor in the company.
Thoughts of changing my blog and updating About me page came to mind. It also turned 3 years old even if I had been on WordPress much longer than that.

April
The career coaching was finally over and the job search continued as usual. But I had thoughts of becoming a student again. I thought about trying to get an internship but I skipped that idea.
Without even realising it, I began writing more about myself on my blog than I thought I would. But I’m not sorry at all.
Another pop icon surprisingly died, Prince. That was a shocker indeed.

May
Creative things is my thing so I wrote why. Two of my favorite TV shows were coming to an end, Bones and Person of interest so soon there’s nothing on TV. I began to write poems because sometimes The daily post have some interesting words that I never knew about before. I write poems when I have nothing else to write about. They just comes naturally as I go along.
Finland’s ice hockey team didn’t win gold in world championships but silver which was disappointing for a while.
The sad thing about this month was that someone on Tumblr thought a female Bond is not a bad idea. Where is this world going to.

June
My birthday on June 2 but age is nothing but a number anyway. I got the best birthday present yet and that’s Novak Djokovic finally winning Roland Garros after trying 3 times before this. I followed his career since 2008 and saw his struggles but it finally paid of on June 5.
The 6th season of Game of Thrones ended after waiting for it almost a year. How fast it went.
I belonged to the city and got to see St. Petersburg in the end of the month. Sorry, still haven’t finished that post about the trip. I hope I can still remember how it went.

Ovation to our heroes

may the force be with you

2016
David Bowie
Prince
Leonard Cohen
George Michael

And now Carrie Fisher.

All these heroes of ours have all left this earth this year. What they all have in common is the legacy they left behind. I could go on and on about it but this post is more of an appreciation to them. They should be remembered for what good they did. It’s easy to remember negative things about people you don’t know personally. No one is perfect, not even those in the public eye. Some people seem to forget that they’re only human. They just happen to have a talent that had made them famous.

We all lucky to have experienced their great skills. They’ve entertained us with their music or movies. They made our lives easier to handle. Unfortunately they had paid a price for doing so. If it’s because of their fame or the pressure the press gives them. But they did something not many can. They made a great impression to a lot of people and tried to make this world a better place. They are our heroes who should get all the ovation they can get.

Since the deaths of George Michael and Carrie Fisher are the recent ones and most shocking to me, I write about that. I was on the cruise ship from Riga on Christmas Day. I was watching TV in the cabin and I watched a Swedish channel. I looked on the teletext and then I saw it, George Michael had died. He’s one of my favorite artists so I couldn’t believe it. It was quite shocking. The same when Prince died. I liked him since the late 80’s. I think ‘Careless whisper’ was the first video and song I heard of him. I was too young to remember the Wham days. I got their cassette years later. We got cable in 1987 or 1988 where they showed music videos. I think it was Sky (current Sky1) or Super channel (current NBC Europe) at the time. What’s so great about music is that it never dies. It’s not always that way that songs can still sound great years or even decades later. George Michael’s music is one of them. Actually I’m listen to those right now. His voice is amazing and he sure will be missed. The best one’s seems to die way too soon. RIP George Michael.

Today another death news. Before Christmas Carrie Fisher suffers a heart attack and today she’s gone. This year really has been a disaster when it comes to the entertaining business. It’s like there’s a curse that takes or our heroes away. At first I wasn’t really interested in Star Wars movies but when I saw one, I thought it wasn’t bad at all. I’ve seen all of them (except this new one, Rogue something) and the oldest ones are definitely the best. I’m the same age as the first one. It got Princess Leia for heaven’s sake. She might have been young boys fantasies but a role model for young girls. That girl could kick some a$$. I could not imagine anyone else playing that role than Carrie. It’s such a shame someone like her wasn’t allowed to stay on this earth any longer. For her mother, this is the greatest loss a mother can have. It wasn’t just a loss for her family and friends, it was also a loss for all of us. There will be one more on the big screen performance in ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ which comes out next December. She gave a lot to this world and we should always remember that. RIP Carrie Fisher.

Advent Calendar, Day 23

Today it’s Christmas Eve Eve and this advent calendar is coming to an end. First of all, thank you all for the likes and comments. I really appreciate them all. Secondly, there’s not much left of the year 2016. Personally my year has been quite eventful which is something that doesn’t happen every year. I’ve also discovered things I didn’t expect I would. I made a list of what I discovered this year.

Learn new things
I started studying web design. At first I was really exited but as the year passed, I notices coding is a pain for me. No matter how many times I tried to practise, I didn’t learn it. I’ve been so frustrated and wanted to quit so many times. My teacher said if I practise and practise, I learn but what’s the point when it only makes me upset. You should like to practise what you do. On the job learning I told my client about my troubles with coding but luckily he fully understood. I did what I could. The client was satisfied with all the work I did do. The planing is something I’m better at. I did a logo and a banner so I used my graphic design knowledge. Sometimes things you’ve learned in the past do come in handy.

Winning a fear
It’s not really a fear but I’ve never been brave. In school I was always a listening student. As an introvert, speaking up in class was never easy. Even if I did know the answer, I still wasn’t brave enough to speak. In the school I’m studying right now, I’m been much more talkative. I’ve asked questions and so on. I think I’m not afraid to speak up is because we’re only about 7 students so it’s easier. I always liked small groups. The older I get, less I think about what others might think. If I screw up something, I just move on. It always wasn’t so. I wouldn’t want to go back in time and live my teens again. I lacked confidence and unsecure around other people. It’s much easier now and it has taken a lot of time to get here.

Blogging
I made a new blog about my web design studies. At first I thought I could handle two blogs but I was wrong. I haven’t had the energy to write so it has been rejected for a while now. I can’t spend my time blogging all day so something must give. The reason I started that blog was to keep up with my studies. More of a diary thing. It’s interesting to know what I was thinking and went through. Usually there’s a lot of things stored in my brain but like computers, you need to empty the hard drive from time to time. I will still have that blog even if I only post there less than in this blog.

Movies
I’m a very late bloomer when it comes to Marvel movies. I haven’t really been interested in those before. Movies like ‘Thor’ and ‘The Avengers’. I loved ‘Guardians of the galaxy’ but that as far as it goes. I’m still not interested in Marvel movies in general. I don’t care about ‘X-men’, ‘Superman’ and whatever the names are. Even if I did see ‘Superman vs Batman’ but that was only because of the latter and I wanted to see how Ben Affleck did his version of him.
There’s reason why my sudden interest in certain Marvel movies has arisen and the reason is Tom Hiddleston. I never thought I would watch Thor and actually liking them. The first one was a bit lame but it did have great special effects. The second was better but you should watch ‘The Avengers’ first because then you understand it better. That’s the problem with Marvel movies, there’s too many characters you have to keep up with. Then they make different movies of them too. ‘The Avengers’ is actually the 2nd ‘Thor’ movie. Damn Loki, his everywhere. But ooh so sexy.

A new crush
What a difference a TV series makes. I’ve never seen anything with Tom Hiddleston before until now. I didn’t think much of him since I didn’t watch those movies. To make a long story short, I watched ‘The Night manager’ and boom, I was ‘in love’ You know when you’re a kid and the parents tell you not to touch the stove or put your tongue on an icy surface but you still do it. The same when someone says, don’t look at him/her for too long or you might fall for them. Maybe I’m a bit superficial here but he’s just so pretty it hurts. Plus those amazing eyes and that voice. Is it getting hot in here? 😀 He’s not just a pretty face though.

Icehockey
I loved ice hockey as long as I remember. I usually watch world champion and big tournaments like that. But this year I discovered I love it even more. I went to a few matches in the Finnish league. One of the tickets I won in an Instagram competition. Nothing is better than seeing it live. It’s not a cheap thrill and I’m not really crazy about the travel to the matches. Being there supporting your team in person and feeling the atmosphere is one of the best feelings in the world.
