Finland is white everywhere. The forecast will remain so for a long time. Snow is great. More the better. Of course, it’s bad for the traffic. But now we have a decent winter for once. There will be more snow coming. There are big piles of snow everywhere because it’s not melting in between. This is much better because it’s lighter outside. Unfortunately, some young people don’t seem to know it’s winter because their wear ripped jeans and sneakers with short socks. Then they complain it’s cold. Well, serves you right for not dressing right. I wonder what kind of parents they have. I wouldn’t let my kid go outside like that. Nothing beats walking in deep snow. They’re missing all the fun. If you don’t wear warm clothes in the winter, you will get a lot of health issues when you get older. There are a lot of nice looking winter clothes so why don’t they buy those. If you don’t dress decently, you shouldn’t complain about the cold. That’s my two cents of the matter. I’m gonna enjoy the snow as long as I can. I dress in layers so I won’t feel that cold that some people do.
In Europe, we use the metric system. Also, the degree is in Celsius. What cold is, is an opinion. For some even plus 1 Celsius is cold. In Finland, the weather often goes under zero in winter. But this year, it’s been quite rainy. When I was a child there was always a lot of snow in December. We still get snow but it melts away. It has a lot to do with climate change. Some say it’s not real but it is. It affects all of us if you like it or not. In the north there’s is snow but here in the South, we’re not as lucky.
People think it’s OK there isn’t snow. But each to their own. Snow is better than rain. Christmas without snow is like summer without sunshine. I wouldn’t want to spend Christmas in a warm climate. You can’t change the weather. You get what you can. It’s a bit depressive to spend Christmas in the rain. It doesn’t feel very Christmasy. As a Finn, I’m used to having something white on the ground. It doesn’t matter what degree it’s outside. I can live above zero as long as it’s not too warm. There won’t be any snow on Christmas this year since I’ll spend it somewhere else. Even some snow this winter will be enough. There were some of it on independence day. The closest to snow we get next week is sleet and that’s not a very pleasant kind of weather. At least we don’t need to freeze because the degree will be plus something.
Living in Finland means snow in the winter. In the south there’s not much of that anymore. It melts which is the saddest thing. Some people find snow cold and depressive but I love it. If there’s no snow, I won’t call it winter. This winter we already had some but it rained away. You can’t ski on it but it’s still white. It’s darker without it. At this moment there is some snow but it’s gets dark so soon so I haven’t had time to take new photos of it. It will probably melt again soon. The weather in Finland can be unpredictable. One day there’s rain and the next some sun.
Every Christmas there’s a question, will there be a white Christmas? If you want snow, it’s guaranteed you get that in the Northern Finland. The higher you get, the better there’s a lot of it. I won’t be home at Christmas so it doesn’t really matter if there’s snow or not. Snow is always welcome no matter where I’m going. It’s refreshing to see it during December though. Especially when it’s dark outside. Otherwise it would be grey and dull. I don’t understand those who complain about the cold. Have they never heard of jumpers and winter boots? That’s what makes it so unique to live in a climate with different seasons. There’s not a dull moment. Having snow is even better. Putting layers of clothes on is like wrapping presents. Love yourself and that also goes for covering yourself with clothes to keep warm. So let it snow. Kids love it so why not adults too.
