Bloganuary: What book is next on your reading list?

Day 18. I don’t remember the last time I read a book. I’m not much into that. If I read them, it’s either biographies or about subjects like photography. I own some books, but I prefer going to the library. I haven’t been there a while, though, because of covid. I used to read children’s books when I was younger. They were easier to read. I don’t like reading books with small print. I have so much else to do, so I don’t have the time to read them. I rather read magazines and newspapers. I just don’t have the patience to read novels and stories like that. I have the Lord of the rings book, but I have never finished it. I tried to read it twice but failed. It’s too slow for me. When you’ve seen the movies, there is no turnback. I’ve read The Hobbit more than once. I owned the Finnish version and borrowed the English one from the library. That’s as far as I can go. I don’t even listen to audiobooks. It’s just isn’t my thing.

They say reading books develop your imagination. But so does watching movies and TV shows. Also, reading books of facts. I have got a lot of inspiration from moving pictures. I’ve also studied drama. Life experiences develop your imagination as well. There are a lot of ways to read. Books are not the only thing. I’ve read many fan fiction online. Mostly in English. I’ve got a lot of ideas from them to my own fan fiction. Everyone isn’t made to read books. The most important thing is that you read. It doesn’t matter what. It keeps your mind busy, and at the same time, you might learn something new.

Bloganuary: What is a cause you’re passionate about and why?

Day 16. I’m not really passionate about anything. The word sounds like you’re mad and do crazy things. I prefer to call it things I like to do. I enjoy writing, but I wouldn’t call it passion. I like taking photographs, but still, I’m not passionate about it. I can do without it. Recently I’ve taken photos with my mobile. I thought about becoming a professional photographer once, but then I realised it takes the fun out of photography. I wasn’t taking my camera everywhere like most photographers do. I could take photos if it was part of something, but I wouldn’t do it full-time. I like changes, so sticking to one thing would bore me.

Maybe my passion is watching movies. I saw my first movie when I was 3 years old. It was the 1937 animated version of Snow White. I still remember how scared I was when I saw the dark forest scene. I couldn’t watch any creepy stuff after that. I still can’t watch scary movies. The first time I saw Lord of the Rings- Fellowship of the ring, I looked away when the orcs were shown. I belonged to a movie club when I was 10, where they showed children’s movies. I went there with my mother. I’ve seen a lot of movies in the theatre and on TV. I always watch them until the end. I can’t understand why people are in a hurry to get out. I’ve paid for the ticket so why not stay. I also own several DVDs and Blu-rays. I just never seem to have the time to watch them. I’ve seen them more than once, but I also have discs I still haven’t watched. I’ve also studied writing movie scripts. I have experience in movie making. We wrote a scene, and then we shot them. It’s was hard work, but fun. It would be nice to volunteer in an actual project one day.

Another possible passion is music. I listen to it every day on Spotify. I also have the radio on from time to time. Music has helped me a lot. It’s very therapeutic. I listen to it no matter the mood I’m in. I like all kinds of music. It depends on what I feel that day. Music helped me get through my mother’s death. Sometimes I play an instrument. I own at least 3. I only use one, though. In 3rd grade, I played the recorder, but I didn’t like it. It was only when I became an adult when I learned to play it. Another instrument I can play is the synthesiser with one hand. I took classes when I was 6, but I only went once. My parents were displeased because they had bought me the instrument and everything. I have played it after that too, but now one key doesn’t work. Now it’s at home collecting dust. I also own a harmonica, but I can only play randomly by ear. Without music, life would be dull.

Passionate or liking things, it’s the same, it gives pleasure. That’s better than doing something you don’t like, right?

The question is on day 8, What do you like most about your writing? It depends on what I write and in what language. I speak and write three. Finnish, Swedish and English. It’s only words that you put together to get a sentence. They should also make sense. That’s the hardest part. E.g. in Finnish, there are sentences where you need to put a comma, but where are a different matter. Knowing a few languages confuses you. Sometimes I don’t know how to describe things. I might know a word in English, but I can’t remember what it is in Finnish. The Internet is a big help. Knowing what to write can be stressful. I dislike it the most when I can’t find the right words no matter how hard I try. I have that problem sometimes when I write this blog.

I don’t know what I.like the most about my writing. I have always had a good imagination, so maybe that’s it. It’s not my thing to say if I’m a good writer or not. I can be satisfied with what I write, but it’s really for people who read my stuff to judge if it’s good or not. Maybe I rely too much on other people’s opinions, but I wouldn’t post it online if I didn’t. I want to share things and make people feel good. It’s the same with writing this blog and the fan fiction I write. I don’t want to start from a clean slate if I’m not happy about my work. I prefer moving forward and getting better at writing. Not only getting better but also learning new things. I’ve had doubts about my writing abilities. But when someone likes what I write, it feels it’s not that bad.

When I studied journalism years ago, I realised I was better at writing fiction. As a journalist, you need to write about facts, but I like writing fiction because you can use your imagination. Besides, I can’t listen and write at the same time. That’s what you need when you interview people or write an article about something. It’s easier to say what I’m not good at. I couldn’t write a book because I would run out of ideas and get distracted. I’m better at short stories that I can post online. They say to stick to what you know, even if I write about things I haven’t experienced myself. I just have a vivid imagination, that’s all.
