Give me at least one tiny chance

tiny statueIt seems I never get even tiny chances in anything. If it’s a chance to get someone to like you romantically or getting an internship in a company. The latter is the most important thing. I don’t seem to get any foot between any door. No matter how many times I send applications or ask through email, I never get any replies. We are supposed to find a client or an internship in a company in our web design education which begins November 14 and is to December 11, 2016. I have no luck to find anything. Even social media hasn’t helped. I’m probably the only one in my class without anything. Maybe web design is just not my thing after all. I don’t even think I could make any sites without help. I already struggle with it. If I can’t make one to myself, how can I make for someone else? That’s the reason why I would prefer a company where they make web sites. It seems I never even have a tiny chance. It’s hard to keep up the motivation when I feel like I can’t do anything.

These are times I wonder what’s wrong with me. Why doesn’t anyone give me a tiny chance in anything? Am I too ugly to get hired? I have studied different things but it’s not appreciated enough it seems. Maybe I’m just not good at explaining things. I’ve been on job search courses but those were no help. It doesn’t matter what kind of advice you get, they won’t work. If they work, it happens to other people. Luck doesn’t seem to find me. I have skills but only I seem to know that. It’s not my fault I’m being overlooked. A lot of other people are too so I’m not alone with this problem. I’m old enough and confident enough to know it’s not me, it’s them. The only fight I’m gonna have is with myself.

Tiny things won’t let me down. I’ve learned to enjoy the small things in life. I love walking through fallen leaves. I love the rain. I don’t care if it’s dark outside. I put my rubber boots on and take my umbrella to take a walk. I jump in the puddles like little kids do. In the winter if there’s snow I take long walks. I don’t mind the cold. That’s what warm clothes are for. I take some snow and try to make a ball. I throw it away and maybe I hit a tree. That’s what life is for. Why do adults stop doing these things? You’re never too old. It’s only stuck up people who thinks so and there’s a lot of those people.
I love writing fan fiction. I won’t stop just because someone doesn’t like them. I’m not the best writer out there but that’s not the reason I do it. I write them because it gives me a chance to escape the world for a while. Sometimes I’m so into them, I forget the time. I hate to stop when the words are flowing. When inspiration struck, you don’t want to stop or you have to catch the train of thought again.

Always do what you love the most. That’s how I go by. Tiny stuff but big thoughts. Life would be empty without them.

Money makes the world go round, not!

rubelsThe Finnish version of “Who wants to be a millionaire?” is shown here on Saturdays. It’s the same one like the original but in Finnish. The question is always “Do you want to become a millionaire?” So far no one has even been close. Another question is, if you win a million, what would you do with it? The same question with lottery.
Maybe you should win it first before knowing what to do with the money. In a way that’s a silly question. How would you really know if you don’t have that kind of money in the first place? Why is money such an important thing in the world anyway?

I come from a working class background. My mother had temp jobs and then she was unemployed. My father was working in a company that made jewellery until he became self-employed in the same occupation. He still makes jewellery even if he’s on pension. Even if we weren’t middle class, we still had food on the table. My mother taught me how to save money and how to buy food or clothes from a discount. I’ve learned the value of money. That’s one of the reasons why I wouldn’t want to be a millionaire. I only need enough money to live my life. Money doesn’t make you happy anyway. It’s just something you need to survive.

I never dream to become a millionaire. Like The Notorious B.I.G sang ‘Mo money, mo problems. I wouldn’t even know what to use that kind of money. I would probably give it away to things that need them more. Besides if you’re rich you have to pay more taxes. It also brings people to you that want to become your friend because you got the cash. There would be a lot of fake people around and life is too short for that. Sure you can travel, buy fancy clothes and all those unnecessary things you think you need but it won’t make you fully happy.

You don’t need a million euros, dollars or whatever your currency is, to be something. You don’t need to buy anything expensive. All you need money for is paying the bills, buy food and clothes once in a while. It’s only the rich people who think they need all the money they have. There’s so many homeless and poor people in the world but the greed is too strong so the unfortunate doesn’t have a chance. Money doesn’t make the world go round, it’s the people who makes the money go round. Money shouldn’t be the most important thing in life but unfortunately some think that’s the only thing. But their life must be empty anyway.

It’s much easier to appreciate money when you haven’t had it. You’ve learned to save some and use it sensible. Spending time with other people is more important. Having at least one person in your life is like having millions. With money you can buy things but it doesn’t buy you happiness.

Older but not ancient

old_tripod

Looking for a job is much harder today than it was before. There’s so many young hopefuls who wants to become something. But without experience, its more difficult to get anything. But how to get experience if no one wants to give you a chance. Even if you do have experience, it’s still difficult. You’re either too young or too old. I think employers have too many high expectations on how an employee should be but in a way its quite understanding. No one really wants to take risks to hire people. If its money issues or something else. But if no one wants to give you a job no matter what education you have, how will this society succeed?!

When I look online where these 19 something are searching for internships and they have all these skills, I feel ancient. These are the hopefuls I mentioned at the start of this post. They all say they’re eager to learn and so on. But what about people with experience, aren’t they eager to learn? Just because they’re in certain age doesn’t meant they can’t learn something new. They’re older, not ancient.
I have never had a paid job. My career has never really started. But there are older people who got success at an older age. There are for example many actors who got they’re big break at 40 something. Not everybody has to have a career at 20. Besides it’s not old, it’s experienced. Some look at age too closely. That’s doesn’t make a person. It’s how they behave. There are older people who act like teenagers but there’s also teens who act like they’re older. It’s how you feel inside and not when you’re born. A person can have a lot of experience but when an employer sees the applicants age, they put their files in the bottom of the pile. It shouldn’t happen but it does.

Age discrimination is too common these days. I haven’t experienced it personally but I wouldn’t be surprised if it had happened. My mother used to say when you turn 40, it’s harder to get a job and she must be right. Revealing my age here, I am getting close to that age and it does worry me. I’m worried that I won’t get any luck even with this web designer education  I’m going through. What I know now about web design, I’m still a novice. There are a lot of people who can do more than I do and they’re younger. It’s a lot about practise. They more you do it, more it becomes natural. It has nothing to do with age. It might take longer to learn than for a younger person. But an older person have more life experience and that should count for something.

So say no to age discrimination. We’re older and not ancient, there’s a difference.
