Pinch of criticism about the Oscars

If you didn’t know, the Oscars awards were last night. I didn’t watch it because I think it’s a waste of time to stay up that late. Actually, I’m not interested in the Academy Awards that much. I saw it once when Lord of the rings was nominated, and they won too. The nominations have become a little weird. There are movies I’ve never heard of. The film that should be nominated isn’t. It only gets stranger each year. I wonder if there are only old farts that choose who gets nominated. A pinch of criticism about the Oscars here.

Some of the movies you can’t even watch in the theatre. Not everyone wants to pay for Netflix. I already have Disney Plus. It’s not that I would watch the movies, but only saying movies like that shouldn’t be nominated in an award show like The Oscars. Short films are different. They can only be shown on streaming services. I always wondered why movie series never get nominated for the big awards. They might belong to a series, but they are still different movies. They usually win special effects or awards like that. I don’t think it’s right, but that’s how the Academy works. Lord of the rings is the only movie that won Best movie. It seems trilogies are poison for the Academy. I feel a little sorry for the actors who won’t get nominated because they are in these movies. Then again, they don’t become actors for the awards. The Oscars are only one among other award shows, so it’s not the end of the world if “wrong” movies or actors get nominated. It’s only a Hollywood thing, to show off your party dress. That’s probably a big part of why people watch the award show. I don’t care about that. I care about watching movies and not the glamour that goes with the filmmaking folks.

No break for the wicked

It’s not that I’ve had a busy year. On the contrary, it’s been quiet until October, when my filmmaking studies at Helsinki Design School started. The assignments aren’t as complex and time-consuming as the graphic design course. There is a lot of writing and analysing of movies. Two meetings in a row, we had about directing and screenplay writing. The latter is the most exciting subject for me. I’ve studied it before, so it’s a bit familiar. This week we had about casting, where two Finnish professional actors told us about the actor’s point of view of the movie and television business. They also played a scene that one of the students had written. There is a big difference between amateur and professional acting. An ordinary person goes through the script quickly, but a professional actor takes the time and, well, acts. This education has been fascinating and will continue to be so when the next meeting is in January. There won’t be a break in the assignments, but they’re not stressful, so it doesn’t matter.

If this year was quiet, I wouldn’t have that in 2023. Besides my studies, I’m going to a few concerts. First, the Robbie Williams one in March, and then in July, Pet shop boys. But wait, there is more. A sudden, surprising twist occurred. It was something I didn’t expect. My teenage dream will come true on June 27, 2023. The British band, Take That will come to Finland. The tickets will go on sale tomorrow (Monday 19th). They were here 29 years ago. My mother didn’t let me go at the time. I can’t let this chance go by. They’re a trio now when they were 5 at the time. I’ve only seen their concert in the movies and on television. It’s much easier to buy concert tickets nowadays, so I’m sure I’ll get a ticket. There will be a busy week at the end of June and the beginning of July 2023. First, Take That and a week later, Pet shop boys. So a lot of travelling next year.

Before all the above, Christmas break is upon us. I’ll be going on a cruise to Tallinn with dad. Maybe I will still post on this blog this year, but that will be after the holidays. In January, the Bloganuary begins again, which I will participate in. If I don’t write here this year anymore. Have a jolly good Christmas, and give peace a chance.

Welcome Tom to the 40s club

Today British actor Tom Hiddleston turns the big 40. It feels a bit weird that someone you don’t know personally is in the same age as you. Well, I’m still older, though. I turn 44 in June. When I turned 40, I thought, wasn’t I just 35. At 40, you realise how fast the time has gone. You have a history behind you, but also a future in front of you. My 40s is different from he’s 40. For one, he’s male and a famous actor. Actually, anyone else in their 40s has more experience than me. In everything in life. So age doesn’t really matter. It’s just that when a woman is 40, they’re old. But when a man is 40, it’s no big deal. You hear men get better with age. But you never hear that about women. It’s better to be a woman though because, well, you get to like men like Tom. Someone like me will never get someone like him though. Life is like high school where the popular person wouldn’t look at the shy and ‘ugly’ one that way.

Getting older is not always a good thing. Especially when you’re a woman, and you’re single without a job. Other people probably wonder why. Maybe there is something wrong with you. Well, no one is perfect. Even those who you think are, but everyone does have flaws. If you’re famous or just an ordinary person. When you’re young, you don’t think about age. Not until you become older. Age seems to be a problem for some people. You’re either too young or too old. The older you get, the less you care what others think. Answering the question, maybe there is something wrong with you. Yes, there is. I don’t have enough job experience, and I have never been popular among boys/men. But I don’t really see that as a problem. There are a lot of things I missed, but you can’t go back. You can’t miss something you never had. There is just so much more in life than trying to impress other people. Some people have goals to have a family one day, but it’s not my life. Other people’s personal lives are no concern of mine. Even famous ones. I have other things to think about. If I kept thinking about other things than my own life, I wouldn’t have time to do anything else. I don’t like drama. It makes me feel uncomfortable. I can’t even say to a person when they act wrongly without shaking inside.

That was enough about me.

Welcome Tom Hiddleston to the 40s club. I still love you no matter what age 😉 Have some cake 🙂
