This calendar is not only about Christmas. You can’t colour me in patina to make me write about that all the time. Besides, I will run out of Christmas topics before the end if I do.
This year I’ve been to the movies quite a bit. Some years I probably only go see one or two. It depends on what’s in store. In 2017 I’ve seen 6 movies and one more to come. That’s a personal record. I’ve seen ‘Kong: Skull Island’ (twice), ‘Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2’, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’, ‘Paddington 2’, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ and the latest is ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ In 10 days it’s “Star Wars The last Jedi.
Watching movies has been an escape since I was 9 or 10. The first movie I ever saw was when I was 3 years old. I belonged to a movie club with my mother when I was in primary school where we went to see one movie once a week. It was movies for kids.
I always stay until the end. Most people leave as soon as the movie ends. Some movies have post-credit scenes. Like the Kong movie. You see people online being surprised there have been one. Well, you should have stayed until the end. It’s kind of funny reading people reactions. I don’t know why people are such in a hurry. Movie tickets are not cheap so you might just enjoy it while it last.
People have their snacks and drinks in the movie theatre. Then they have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the movie. I had to do it once when I saw ‘Batman, The dark knight rises’ and I hope I never have to do it again. I dislike missing scenes from movies. That’s one of the reasons why I never have anything to drink at the movies. I don’t even have candy with me that often. When you eat sweets, you get thirsty and then you have to drink. You know what happens when you do. At home, you can pause a movie but at the movies, you can’t.
The problem going to the movies are other people in there. Sometimes there are people who neither can’t be quiet or they keep rustle their candy bags. Luckily there haven’t been any nightmare viewers when I’m been to the movies. The other is commercials. 15 minutes of the same ones you see on TV and then a few movie trailers. I’ve started to arrive at the theatre about 10 minutes before the movie begins. Even that is too early. It’s wrong to pay for a ticket and then waiting for the commercials to end. 10 minutes would be enough. I don’t know why movie theatres do it. Trailers I can do but commercials are too much. Especially when they’re so stupid these days. You just have to accept the way things are. Nothing beats a movie on the big screen. That’s something you can’t get at home.
When people hear the name ‘Star Wars’ they assume it’s only geeks who watch those kind of movies. But that’s where you are wrong. I watch them and I’m not a geek. Honestly I didn’t even like Star Wars at first. I thought it was a bit juvenile. People dressing like the characters was just weird to me. I still think so but each to their own.
The first movie I saw was ‘The phantom menace’ OK it wasn’t one of the best once but still you have to start somewhere. After that I saw the original trilogy on TV. Like most fans, I like those better. I have the Revenge of the sith on DVD which I think it’s the best out of the newer trilogy.
I went to see the latest one, Star Wars: The Force Awakens this evening. I thing it was OK but I thought it was a bit long. What disturbed me the most was the constant battles with the ships. There wasn’t much of a story but that’s just how movies are these days. There were some funny scenes though. When Han Solo appeared on-screen, people in the audience cheered. But not for Leia which was a bit strange. Did they even know it was her? (and no Carrie Fisher doesn’t look old :P) I’m not sure I liked Kylo Ren. When I first saw the trailer, I was unsure about him. He’s just not Darth Vader. Not even close. Even if Adam Driver was good, I still doubt the characters abilities. Maybe in the next one.
Rest of the cast did a good job too. It’s always nice to see new faces in the movies.
Not spoiling anything but the short appearance of Luke was a bit WTF, that’s it?! And no cheering for him either. Weird people. The reason I went to see this in the theater was to see the old crew, him, Han Solo, Leia and Chewwie. But at least it was 3 out of 4. Until the next time.
So 2015 started and a new year is here. So what to do. See movies of course. In a movie theater/cinema to be precise. I don’t go that often because in recent years there haven’t been movies I’ve wanted to see. I usually went a few times a year. It’s also quite expensive. I don’t really fancy being in the theater. There’s always something disturbing. Someone talking or someone rustling with their candy bags. Just other people basically. Also quite irritating that people are rushing out after the movie theater like there’s a fire somewhere. I always stay to the end.
Last year I went 4 times which is quite rare. But they were movies I wanted to see. (Guardians of the galaxy, Into to the storm and The Hobbit (twice) ) I only pay for a ticket for a movie that are worth my time and it’s always in 2D. I don’t like 3D. This year there’s gonna be quite a few. Yes there is life after The Hobbit 😉
It’s out today (January 2) in Finland. It’s based on a book. Starring Ben Barnes ❤ ,Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore and Kit Harington. I’m planning to go in next week.
Exodus: Gods and Kings
It was realised in December 26 over here but then I saw the ticket price, I decided to wait. And I still wait. It seems I have to wait until they have a day when it’s less expensive. Or I won’t go at all. The reason I want to see it is, Christian Bale. And I saw the trailer before The Hobbit movie started. It also looks interesting. It has a lot of criticism but who really cares. It’s a movie for crying out loud. Nothing to do with real events.
The Imitation game
Two words: Benedict Cumberbatch. I haven’t seen the trailer or don’t know what it’s about. I usually try to found information about a movie first before I decide to watch it or not. This time I’m gonna take another approach. The movie will be out in February so it’s gonna take a while.
This was also out on January 2. I didn’t think of going to see this but I saw the trailer and it looked like fun. I remember watching Paddington on TV when I was a child. I still have a Paddinton piggy bank. The bear is sitting on his suitcase, wearing a hat. Like this one but the jacket is blue. I have it in a box somewhere.
There’s also a dubbed version of the movie but imagine Nicole Kidman “speaking” Finnish 😀 The original is always the best.
So quite a lot of movies for me to see this year. If I get to see them (bloody ticket prices) that’s another story. This is my “going to see a movie”- plan 2015.
