In the year 2016 (part 2)

Let’s go to part one of this retrospective. Read part one here.

July
Another quiet month. Must have been the summer and also my trip to St. Petersburg. It was also one of those lazy months when the heat kicks in and you feel out of focus. One Line Sunday was on at least. I was a lot in my mind palace. Writing fan fiction is the reason most of the time.
I applied to a school to study web design and my main concern was how to get passed the interview. Things I know now.

August
If July was quiet on this blog then this month it really was. Beside the One Line Sunday my motivation was indeed low. The only thing I posted was about the new muse that I found. Damn that Tom Hiddleston and The night manager TV series. The Olympics was also the reason why I didn’t blog much.
Something good did happen and that was I got in to the web design education I applied to. Yay me.

September
It when hell broke loose. Living in the dorm that is. Studying new things are nice but when the school day is over, the free time is nothing but silent. What’s worse is that, the internet in the dorm is so slow, blogging is a pain. I did start a new blog about my studies though.
I tried daily inspiration but I failed even if I did write something. One of them was about my expensive bucket list.

October
Now this was busy month in my blog. I got soaking wet from standing in the rain while waiting for the bus to get home. I went to the dentist twice in a week because my teeth are breaking in pieces.
I’ve realized a lot in my life and now I realized web design is not as easy as I thought it was. I should keep calm about the matter but I’m hating myself for not learning. Am I slow or plain stupid, are thing going through my mind.
Writing and especially fan fiction takes my mind out of troubles.

Most popular post: When I realized

November
I learned some new English words and put them in good use in my blog posts. Words like, Elicit, Sated and Hyperbole. Then I took a chance and bought a ticket to see Robbie Williams next year.
Wrote some more poems and more about Finnish culture. I got a bit too excited when I saw the traffic on my blog but it was actually my visits when I wasn’t logged in.
One of my favorite Formula One drivers, Nico Rosberg became champion and then about a week later he announces his retirement. I didn’t write about the latter in the blog though.
I ended the month with a list with likes and dislikes. In other words, the naughty and nice list.

December
Advent calendar in a blog wasn’t a bad idea. I got write every day which was an achievement in itself. It had poems, Finnish Christmas traditions and photos I’ve taken. Not forgetting One Line Sunday. I also wrote my 500th post this month. I had a client I had to make a website for but I still had time to do some blogging. When the on the job learning was over, there was still a week left of school which I passed. There was snow when I left and when I came home, it melted all away again.
This was also the month when my mother passed away 3 years ago.
Christmas time is a time to relax and we relaxed by traveling to Riga. Unfortunately good things come to an end and the news about George Michael’s death was unfortunate. If that wasn’t enough. Carrie Fisher passed away as well.
Even if there’s still time to post on this blog this year, I think this is the last one.
So thank you for reading and for the follows. Have a happy new year everyone and see you next year.

In the year 2016

fireworks

It’s that time of year when you reminisce the year that has passed. A lot has happened during the year in the world. Since this is a blog post and I write about things I like and my thoughts, I’m going to go down the memory lane. Luckily WordPress keeps stats so it’s easier to remember what I’ve written about. So here it goes. This is part 1.

January
Like any year, I don’t make any new years resolutions and I never plan ahead. Every year it’s the same, things happen you never thought would. Nothing is too obvious. Like Finland’s Juniors under 20 became world champions in ice hockey. Some of those players now have an NHL contract in their pockets. Personally I got a tablet and decided to join Instagram. Since I don’t have a smart phone, I’ve never been interested in it before.
In the end of the month my favorite tennis player, Novak Djokovice won his 11th Grand Slam in Australian Open.
The sad news was that pop icon David Bowie past away.

February
This month was quiet in my blog. I started a career coaching course which took all my time. In that course you learned about job searching and your own strengths. I wouldn’t say I learned anything new but it did give me a chance to get out of my comfort zone. Talking about comfort. Leonardo DiCaprio finally won an Oscar. He’s been nominated so many times and never won. No one deserves it more than him.

March
March was the most difficult one. I was still on the career coaching course and we were suppose to go to companies to ask for a work practise place. I felt so worthless because it was so hard for me to pick up the courage and when I finally did, they said no can do. Then I called a stranger and got an interview in a digital marketing company but I didn’t meet the person I should. It was quite useless because I got a no can do again. At least I saw a famous Finnish actor in the company.
Thoughts of changing my blog and updating About me page came to mind. It also turned 3 years old even if I had been on WordPress much longer than that.

April
The career coaching was finally over and the job search continued as usual. But I had thoughts of becoming a student again. I thought about trying to get an internship but I skipped that idea.
Without even realising it, I began writing more about myself on my blog than I thought I would. But I’m not sorry at all.
Another pop icon surprisingly died, Prince. That was a shocker indeed.

May
Creative things is my thing so I wrote why. Two of my favorite TV shows were coming to an end, Bones and Person of interest so soon there’s nothing on TV. I began to write poems because sometimes The daily post have some interesting words that I never knew about before. I write poems when I have nothing else to write about. They just comes naturally as I go along.
Finland’s ice hockey team didn’t win gold in world championships but silver which was disappointing for a while.
The sad thing about this month was that someone on Tumblr thought a female Bond is not a bad idea. Where is this world going to.

June
My birthday on June 2 but age is nothing but a number anyway. I got the best birthday present yet and that’s Novak Djokovic finally winning Roland Garros after trying 3 times before this. I followed his career since 2008 and saw his struggles but it finally paid of on June 5.
The 6th season of Game of Thrones ended after waiting for it almost a year. How fast it went.
I belonged to the city and got to see St. Petersburg in the end of the month. Sorry, still haven’t finished that post about the trip. I hope I can still remember how it went.

Ovation to our heroes

may the force be with you

2016
David Bowie
Prince
Leonard Cohen
George Michael

And now Carrie Fisher.

All these heroes of ours have all left this earth this year. What they all have in common is the legacy they left behind. I could go on and on about it but this post is more of an appreciation to them. They should be remembered for what good they did. It’s easy to remember negative things about people you don’t know personally. No one is perfect, not even those in the public eye. Some people seem to forget that they’re only human. They just happen to have a talent that had made them famous.

We all lucky to have experienced their great skills. They’ve entertained us with their music or movies. They made our lives easier to handle. Unfortunately they had paid a price for doing so. If it’s because of their fame or the pressure the press gives them. But they did something not many can. They made a great impression to a lot of people and tried to make this world a better place. They are our heroes who should get all the ovation they can get.

Since the deaths of George Michael and Carrie Fisher are the recent ones and most shocking to me, I write about that. I was on the cruise ship from Riga on Christmas Day. I was watching TV in the cabin and I watched a Swedish channel. I looked on the teletext and then I saw it, George Michael had died. He’s one of my favorite artists so I couldn’t believe it. It was quite shocking. The same when Prince died. I liked him since the late 80’s. I think ‘Careless whisper’ was the first video and song I heard of him. I was too young to remember the Wham days. I got their cassette years later. We got cable in 1987 or 1988 where they showed music videos. I think it was Sky (current Sky1) or Super channel (current NBC Europe) at the time. What’s so great about music is that it never dies. It’s not always that way that songs can still sound great years or even decades later. George Michael’s music is one of them. Actually I’m listen to those right now. His voice is amazing and he sure will be missed. The best one’s seems to die way too soon. RIP George Michael.

Today another death news. Before Christmas Carrie Fisher suffers a heart attack and today she’s gone. This year really has been a disaster when it comes to the entertaining business. It’s like there’s a curse that takes or our heroes away. At first I wasn’t really interested in Star Wars movies but when I saw one, I thought it wasn’t bad at all. I’ve seen all of them (except this new one, Rogue something) and the oldest ones are definitely the best. I’m the same age as the first one. It got Princess Leia for heaven’s sake. She might have been young boys fantasies but a role model for young girls. That girl could kick some a$$. I could not imagine anyone else playing that role than Carrie. It’s such a shame someone like her wasn’t allowed to stay on this earth any longer. For her mother, this is the greatest loss a mother can have. It wasn’t just a loss for her family and friends, it was also a loss for all of us. There will be one more on the big screen performance in ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ which comes out next December. She gave a lot to this world and we should always remember that. RIP Carrie Fisher.
