Why do you blog?

Daily Writing Prompt

Picture it (that’s what Sophia from Golden Girls started a story). It was 2013, and I started my 2nd blog on WordPress. I had one before, but I didn’t continue with it. I’ve been signed to WP much longer than I’ve blogged. But I digress. I only posted 5 posts in 2013. My mother had cancer, and she died the same year, so blogging was the last thing on my mind. It wasn’t until 2014 that I began to blog more often. The Daily Post was the reason why I continued. Oh, the Daily Post, those were the days. Zero to Hero challenge was the name of the game at the time. Blogging was and still is a way of sharing thoughts with other people. The triangle of my blogging is fun, learning, and sharing. Those are the biggest reasons why I blog.

When I started writing this blog, the posts did not include images, and I didn’t think many people would find or read the blog. Sometimes, I was frustrated, and I didn’t know if I would continue with it. But I didn’t give up. I thought I would write for myself and simultaneously learn to write in English (in British English spelling). Blogging is about learning; you get better at it when you practise. I started to put images on posts randomly in 2015. Now, there are images on all of my posts. It does look better instead of only text. This is what you learn during the years you blog. Just like in real life, you live and learn.

Blogging is fun and even better when you can share your thoughts. I’m glad people have found my blog. This is my 10 years of regular blogging. The most active traffic to my blog was in 2020. I don’t know why since I have 965 followers, but not very active ones. Maybe I’m losing my touch. The truth is, blogging isn’t the way it used to be. I’m not that into it, but I still will continue with it. I love writing, and I do it as a hobby. Business blogging is different, and this is not one of those. I have read about it online and have been taking free courses. This blog is about my personal opinions and experiences. I’ve written so much English I don’t think I can write a blog in my own languages, Finnish and Swedish. It’s taken a long time to get where I am today in the blog world. I’m glad I didn’t stop blogging. I’ve got lovely comments and likes on my post. I shouldn’t forget why I started blogging in the first place. It wasn’t to get as many followers, comments and likes as possible (even if they are always welcome). It was about having fun writing, learning new things and sharing thoughts. I won’t understand those who “brag” about how many followers they have on social media. It’s not about quantity; it’s about quality. Those “followers” might be bots or glory hunters, not real followers. If you’re only starting out blogging, don’t give up. It takes time to hit it off. Starting a blog is easy, but updating it regularly and keeping the blog ideas rolling is the hardest. Getting followers to your blog might look impossible, but they will come to you with patience. It also depends on your blog and how much you promote it. The most important is that it keeps you motivated to blog. Don’t do it because everybody is; blog because you enjoy it. That’s how I keep blogging. It’s a bonus if someone else shares my views. This was my triangle as to why I blog.

Things that bother me

What bothers you and why?

Daily Writing Prompt

First, an older post that the subject still bothers me.

Originally posted on March 11, 2019

Other things that bother me are that people don’t seem to care much about my latest post about the Bryan Adams concert and the summer of 24. I had to like my own, but I did that only to make myself feel better. OK, I can’t expect people to like every post I make. But sometimes I feel it’s all a waste of time. Spending time writing in a language that isn’t my own. I don’t know if this post will get much attention. It’s alright; at least I can get my thoughts down. People reading or not. July is probably a slow month anyway, so people are outside of everything.

What bothers me the most is employers’ not replying to applications. I sent one over a week ago through email, and still nothing. I guess there is no chance this time either. Using the time and energy of a job search wastes time. They can keep their jobs. I didn’t want to work there anyway. I’m too tired to wake up early. Being unemployed is much better than trying to fit in. I don’t feel like doing anything anymore. I don’t want to do a job that I don’t want to do. I only get offered jobs that aren’t for me. Thinking about job search spoils the mood.

Kudos to those who bother reading this blog post. If you don’t, it’s OK. It won’t bother me. There is more to life than writing and reading blogs. It’s only one part of it. When things bother me, they go away after a while. I think about the good stuff and try to think positively. Things can’t stay bad forever. At least I can have faith in that thought.

An optimist jot something down

Jot down the first thing that comes to your mind.

Daily writing prompt

Sometimes, you don’t want to jot down anything special. You only want to write what comes to your mind—freewriting, if you like. You either do it with a timer, only write during the day, or have a break until you feel like writing something. There are times when I am an optimist, even if sometimes my posts can feel pessimistic. I prefer thinking positively; if I’m upset, it goes away as fast as it came. I don’t want to dwell on the past, but sometimes, old things come up. You can’t do anything about certain things, no matter how much you want to change the past. Life is about moving forward. Hopefully, you learn from your mistakes. If they are mistakes, that is. You should live for today anyway. That’s what I do. The future can be scary, but you must be an optimist to overcome your fears.

Laughter is the best medicine. I love watching old and new comedies, mostly old ones, because they were funny then. From the newer ones, I love Modern Family. I already watched the series once before. My favourite characters are Gloria and Cam. If you know the comedy show, you know who I’m talking about. I also watch comedy movies. Jim Carrey is my favourite funny man. Robin Williams was an old-time favourite. A shame he died, but his spirit still lives on. Laughing makes you feel better, too.

If you do things you like and others say you can’t, then it’s too bad for them. Life isn’t about doing things you don’t like. Everything made me feel bored, which is why I didn’t find what I wanted to be when I grew up. When I finally do, I don’t get to do them. How can I get better at it if I can’t do what I want to do? I wouldn’t have gotten better at English if I hadn’t written in English. I learned English in 5th grade and have significantly improved since then. The same should be done with other stuff, but no luck. I should make up projects on my own. But I’m too lazy to make them up. Or I have no imagination when it comes to that. My imagination is wider when it comes to writing make-up stories. But not to make up a project that could work in reality.

I’ve been thinking about buying a car, but how can I sell my dad’s car, which has at least five faults? I’ve been in a car shop with my dad, so that’s not a problem. But how do they sell cars to women? I’ve heard stories. I don’t know how much it costs to fix the old car. It’s still in my dad’s name. So much to do. My dad isn’t even buried yet. There was a funeral, but his ashes are still not in the ground. Argh, so much to think about. Everything goes so slowly when I have to do it all alone. But maybe it only feels forever when things don’t move along. I only need to be an optimist, and things will get done.

Now I’m hungry, so thank you for reading. Have a nice weekend.
