NaBloPoMo15: I’m better than you

Got my The Hobbit: Battle of the five armies Extended version.
Got my The Hobbit: Battle of the five armies Extended version today 🙂

One week left of NaBloPoMo. In the prompt the question is, what do you do better than anybody else. I really had to think about that one. I’m modest and I rather not compare myself to others. I don’t really know what I can do better than anybody else. I’m not that special.
Then when I got this DVD today (in the photo) I figured out what to write about. The DVD has got extras where they show and talk about how they made the movie. That’s what I love about these extended versions. They’re really interesting. I look at movies in a totally different way. That’s what I’m better at, understanding movie making. It also helps that I’ve studied script writing and how to make movies.

When an ordinary viewer watch movies, they just see what’s on screen. They don’t see the camera angles or the plots they way I do. Why the characters do what they do or why the shots are what they are. I studied script writing when Lord of the rings: The Two Towers was in the theaters in 2002. I kept thinking about all the camera angles and the storyline. What was taught in school about movie making, was stuck in my head. It made me understand the whole concept of movies. That’s something most people lack. They just watch a movie as entertainment. You can’t understand dramaturgy if you haven’t studied it.

You read comments online where people complain that a movie is too long. Or why don’t they show when the characters go to the toilet. Or if the movie is based on a book, some wonder why a certain thing is not in the movie. Just to name a few examples. Making movies is not easy. You just can’t put everything in a movie. Some scenes are impossible to shoot or expensive to do. It’s also the way the director sees it. I found it funny people complaining “it’s not in the book” crap. Especially in Peter Jackson’s trilogies. It’s his views on it. Some people are never happy. If those complainers think they can make a better one, just do it. But I doubt they can.

There must be a continuity in the plots. If a movie concentrates on little details, if would be a really boring one. It’s so easy to judge movie makers if you have no idea what’s it’s all about. I can tell you from experience that even making one scene takes time and effort. You can’t just shoot once and then you’re done. It’s not a home video. You need to plan in advance. It’s also group work. Sometimes you have to take a lots of shots before it’s complete. Plus the editing and not to mention having a script. Even though I’ve only done a short film or one scene, I can understand how much work it is. Imagine making a whole movie. Now that’s what I call impressive.

“Keep telling yourself that, darling”

keened

I do not fancy Tom Keen. I do not fancy Tom Keen.

That’s what I keep telling myself. It is unheard of to fancy a TV character that you should hate. If you haven’t seen ‘The Blacklist’, you really should. If you did, you would understand what I’m writing about.
But a small recap. Tom Keen is the husband of Elizabeth Keen, who is a FBI profiler. It turns out that their marriage have all been a lie. Tom is not the dream husband she thought he was. To make the story short, after a long time it turns out that he really is a killer that has been paid to kill Liz. At first at least. I don’t know what motives he has now. Those writers really know how to confuse a viewer.

It’s a bit clichĂ© that someone who has been paid to do something actually fall in love with the victim. They kept dragging this, is he or is he not? But from the start I knew he wasn’t innocent. The most disturbing thing is, Liz actually wanted a family with this man. Never felt so uneasy with a character before. I just wanted to slap her for not seeing the real him. She was a profiler so she should notice those things. I guess love is blind. When she finally realises, I could empathise her disgust towards him. She had to act like normal so he wouldn’t find out she knew the truth. When he wanted them to renew their vows, you could really see Liz reaction. She really wanted to spill out the beans. And hurt him. There were also other disturbing things in this relationship but I won’t get into them.

I don’t know what it is with bad guys in movies or television. Especially if the actor is hot. Like in this case. Is Tom Keen hot or is it because Ryan Eggold is? I dislike the character but at the same time I want to make passionate love to him. In real life I would never get interested people who have taken someone elses life.
I don’t understand why some people think Ryan is a bad actor. They obviously haven’t seen him in Sons of Liberty and The Blacklist. If he can play a character that people hate at first, he can’t be that bad.

I really hope the writers won’t get Tom and Liz back together. He already killed at least 4 people so how can someone take him back after all that. A criminal that doesn’t go to jail. It’s wrong and so unrealistic. It doesn’t matter how much he loves her. What done is done. I rather see him in jail or dead than go back to ‘normal’ life.

Silver Screen

I’m not ignoring you, it’s just that

I have had so much to do so blogging has taken a step back. The school assignments had taken more time than usual. I’ve only finished them today. Then I’m writing a new fan fiction so my mind has been on that. I don’t think many have paid much attention to my absence anyway. Then there’s a school meeting on Friday and Saturday so the blogging won’t change. I have no motivation to blog either. So that’s an update from a personal side.

Oh yeah, movies. So I saw Exodus and Seventh Son. I planned to see Paddington but then I saw the original version wasn’t showed as much as the dubbed version. Damn. It’s looked like I won’t be seeing it in the theater after all. Stupid ticket prices. No way I want to see the dubbed one.
There’s been some propaganda about Exodus. When I saw it myself, I thought it was a great movie and Christian Bale even better. Some people just don’t understand movies. It’s entertainment, not a history lesson.
Then Seventh Son. It’s a shame it hasn’t had better success. When I went, there were just a bunch of people. It hadn’t even been in the theater that long. I thought it was an entertaining and exciting movie. Ben Barnes were great and also Jeff Bridges. One thing that was disappointed was lack of Kit Harington. I thought he would have a bigger role but he wasn’t in it very long. It would have been great to see him in another role than Jon Snow. But his day will come. And so will Ben Barnes. There’s something about him that makes me stare at him when he’s on-screen. The same with Bale. Maybe because they’re that good. And easy on the eye too.

Fiction Spoiler Alert!
